Fort Wayne Community “Kickstarts” New May Festival

Fort Wayne, Ind.—March 14, 2014—Today Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) announced it has joined forces with Arts United, the Downtown Improvement District, Fort4Fitness, Fort Wayne Trails, Visit Fort Wayne, and the YLNI Barr Street Market to announce Kickstart, presented by Parkview Health, a one-day community festival that celebrates bikes, art, and music in downtown Fort Wayne.

The first Kickstart festival will highlight the presentation of the IPFW Sculpture with Purpose™ bike racks, sponsored by Lincoln Financial Group, and commissioned by IPFW to commemorate its 50th celebration.

“Kickstart represents a wonderful example of what can happen when passionate, like-minded organizations and individuals collaborate to make Fort Wayne a more vibrant community,” said Irene Walters, executive director of university relations and communications at IPFW.

The festival presenting sponsor Parkview Health, represented by Jill Ostrem, Chief Operating Officer, Parkview Physicians Group, was on hand this morning to announce the inaugural community celebration which will have something for everyone in the Fort Wayne community to enjoy.

“Kickstart embodies a holistic approach to community well-being, celebrating an active lifestyle in all its meanings,” said Ostrem. “We are proud to offer a support in what we hope will be an ongoing annual tradition in Fort Wayne for years to come.”

May 17 event details were also announced by Kickstart partners including:

  • Presentation of the 50 IPFW Sculpture with Purpose™ bike racks
  • Arts United theatre, dance, and music performances
  • Downtown Improvement District’s Spring Trolley

Fort Wayne, Ind.—September 20, 2012— Four months ago, when Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) first introduced its flagship 50th anniversary project—Sculpture with Purpose™, presented by Lincoln Financial Group—the public art initiative was still in the training wheels phase. Today (Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012), organizers unveiled the first sculptural bike rack and issued the Artist Call for Proposal at a news conference held in Freimann Square in downtown Fort Wayne.

IPFW Sculpture with Purpose™ to be Flagship of 50th Anniversary Celebration
